I Love Buildings Event Identity

As part of a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of architecture and the built environment, The Architecture Centre Devon & Cornwall (ACD&C) invited us to design a set of promotional literature to be handed out as part of Architecture Week 2007.

ACD&C asked us to react to the statement:

"We want to encourage you to look up and look about, explore and understand the built environment around you. Which buildings work and why?"

The promotional literature needed to highlight this statement and provoke debate. Taking the "I love NY" classic design and adapting it with the visual language of their brand identity we had just created, we came up with the concept of "I love buildings". We chose to create the heart out of the angled pattern from the brand mark. In doing so, the sub-brand acts as an extension of ACD&C's brand identity.

The result is a design that communicates the simple message that buildings are there to be loved and cherished just as any institute, city or idea should be. And indeed it provoked debate, "I love buildings... well, not all buildings!"

Postcards, stickers and button badges were designed with an extended colour palette made out of the two primary brand colours of yellow and grey. Working closely with the printers, we were able to produce 8 colour variations at a minimal cost to the client.

The physicality of the shoulder tote bag gave us the opportunity to design different elements for both the 'front' and 'back' of the bag. "I 'love' buildings" was placed on the one side and a 'stacked' version of the ACD&C logo on the reverse, giving the carrier the opportunity to show the side that they prefer.
