Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly – Older Peoples' Health and Well-being Toolkits

Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (AFHC) invited us to develop a set of toolkits for carers to aid the provision of creative care activities for older people in care settings. Each toolkit includes an inspirational film (DVD) to promote the benefits of music based creative activities as well as incorporating specific staff training and development information, which focuses on engaging elderly clients with singing and dancing based musical activity.

The success of the project is reflected in the positive feedback received from clients and care staff from projects who describe the benefits of singing and dancing with their elderly clients, especially those with dementia. Care staff have reported improved sleep patterns amongst their residents, greater social integration and a general lightening of mood after the sessions.

AFHC is among the UK’s leading arts and health organisations. Our work on their brand delivered a clearer more confident organisation which has helped their work to be recognised by two recent awards: winner of The Guardian Public Services Award in 2009 and winner of the GSK King's Fund IMPACT Award in 2010.
